What is Nani `O Wai`anae?
Nani `O Wai`anae (NOW) is a non-profit grassroots volunteer organization committed to creating a localized/community-based educational awareness and hands-on program to address the environmental issues unique to our coastal community. This organization is a certified affiliate of the national organization of Keep America Beautiful, Inc. (KAB). NOW is the only KAB affiliate on Oahu at this time. It is part of our mission to assist other communities on Oahu to have their own affiliate. Please contact us if you would like to help us lead your community in becoming an affiliate of KAB.
Some of Nani `O Wai`anae's Projects Include:
Adopt-A-Highway participant; volunteered to be the lead organization in pursuing the City & County Department of Plannings' proposed beautification of Mainstreet Wai`anae; conducted and completed the county's first Photo-Metric Index (technical scientific documentation of changes in litter sources to provide a baseline for on going litter reduction projects); participated in Hawaii's First Litter-Free Sporting Event; beautification of the comer of Nanakuli Ave. and Farrington Hwy.; leads Makua Marine Debris Study under the National Center for Marine Conservation, which is a five year study that collects shoreline debris along coastal waters; integral partner with state-wide Christmas tree recycling; manages the "Clean Stream Hotline"; on contract with the City & County and participating with the State and City & County with illegal dumping issues; monthly beautification events and litter removal; volunteer leader in solid waste management on Oahu; completed the Green Gateway Project along both sides of Farrington Hwy.; planning Hawaii's first Litter-Free Christmas Parade in 2001; organizes the Great Hawaii Cleanup on Oahu as part of the Great America Cleanup annually; participates in the annual international Get the Drift and Bag-it cleanup of coastal areas; and much more.
Who Are Its Members?
Nani 'O Wai'anae's members are a diverse group of business persons, homemakers, elected officials, retirees, military persons, educators, parents, students and environmentalists. All interested persons in the community are encouraged to become members.

The mission of Nani `O Wai`anae (Beautiful Wai`anae) is to enhance and preserve the beauty of Hawaii's unique environment by bringing together people and resources to address litter reduction, solid waste management, and beautification programs.
We are part of Community Work Day a non-profit (501.c3) organization. Our staff/coordinator and Board of Directors are all volunteers. Your tax deductible donation will ensure our continued growth and ability to sponsor the volunteers that do the hands on work to take care of our environment.
