Stanley Porteus and Porteus Hall

On Nov. 19, 1997, students and campus leaders echoed the demands of activists more than a decade ago, demanding Porteus Hall -- the social sciences building on the UH-Manoa campus -- be renamed.

Protestors spread their message on and in front of the building, calling Porteus and his theories blatantly racist.

The push to change the building's name is supported by several campus groups, including ASUH and the GSO. Representatives plan to again petition the Board of Regents to take Porteus' name off the 13-year-old building.

While the 'Venue currently lacks the resources to provide in-depth coverage of this issue, we hope to increase awareness by making any available resources available online.
