I figured I should start a new thread here after my intro http://www.hawaiithreads.com/showthread.php?t=18289
Questions: 1. We'd like to visit Lanikai beach(on a weekday). From what I've read online, parking could be a problem and you could get a ticket easily, so is it okay to park on the unpaved sides of the street in the residential area? will I get a ticket for that? We're very respectful(of other people and the environment). 2. How long is the drive from Waikiki to North Shore realistically? I think google says 45 minutes, is this for like 1:00 in the morning? what time of the day I should avoid this drive? Mahalo, |

going up country is more like an hour in the best of non rush hour circumstances. . .with traffic(or big swell)it can be a parking lot. I would head up around 10am , and leave by 3 or after 6.
As for Lanikai, we typically parked like you are saying, normally had ok luck right on Mokulua Dr, without incident or tickets. this was typically on a Monday.

Driving to the north shore (to the Haleiwa end) can take less than 45 minutes if you go from Waikiki to H-1 to the H-2 and up that way. But if you take the scenic route up Kamehameha Highway on the windward coast, yes, it can be 45 minutes (to the Turtle Bay end). Probably longer, since there are dozens of cool places to stop, take photos, dip in the ocean, etc.
As Tatt said, you should be okay with the Lanikai parking as described.
