In My Words: Introduction
Dear Friends, Like you, I want to do right by my family and our community, the influences that have made me what I am today. To do what's right is to take responsibility for our future. It's our generation's obligation to relieve the burdens placed upon all of us by a government that's inefficient, obsolete, overgrown, and unresponsive. Over the next few months I will be personally asking you to join me in making the future a better place for generations ahead. We all want a healthy state economy, a responsible public education system, and a more effective state government. To achieve this takes a fundamental change in the leadership of state government. To accomplish this demands courage, a new approach, a fresh face, and a new leadership to invigorate our two-party democracy. We can no longer afford to sit back and be complacent, while our elderly and our keiki continue to suffer. By continuing along this path, we leave a legacy of debt burden upon the generations to follow. That is a legacy I refuse to leave, and it's a legacy I'm sure that you would not want to leave your children. Unless we stand together and meet our obligation to make a positive change, things will only worsen. If we want to move forward, we must be proactive and never be satisfied with the status quo. It means that we must have courage, fight the good fight, and never give up. To borrow a sentiment shared by a trusted friend and mentor, Rep. Charles Kong Djou, "I believe the time is now, the cause is just, and the need is great." I humbly ask you to stand beside me, be courageous, make a difference, and make a change for a better tomorrow. I look forward to meeting each of you over the next few months, hearing your concerns and suggestions, and earning your support. Kulia I Ka Nu'u! |
