In My Words: Inspiration
Originally prepared for "The Level Playing Field," a special presentation of The Koolau News. This piece was to be published Sunday, Oct. 6 (General Election Week 2 of 6). Being a leader means making a difference out of care and dedication to the people you serve. Some leaders really live up to this definition and have created a place for themselves in history.
On a business trip, I was fortunate enough to be able to get an appointment with Sen. Inouye. What struck me, and I'll never forget it, was that he still has his helmet from WWII. I still get goose bumps thinking about that and what it means. You fight for righteousness. As long as that is your moral compass, you'll stay the course and do right by those you serve. These political leaders are an inspiration to me, and I hope to have the opportunity to serve the people of Hawaii as conscientiously and as steadfastly as they did and do. |
