Concerning the Springfield, Oregon Incident
Date: 21 May 1998 To: All Media From: Friends of Kristin Kinkel This statement is being issued to all news media from Kristin Kinkel, regarding the tragedy this morning in Springfield, Oregon:
"I was notified by police this morning of the shooting, and have had no further contact with authorities or family since that time. I know nothing more than what has been reported in the media. I am asking that reporters contact authorities for further information, as they are the best source for official developments in the case.
I, along with my friends and family, am asking reporters to draw upon their professionalism in allowing myself and my family to deal with this personal loss without uneccessary media pressure. I will make no public comments regarding this issue until I am prepared to call a press conference or to make another statement.
I thank you for your understanding, cooperation and aloha in dealing with this story in a professional and sympathetic manner."
Ms. Kinkel, sister of 15-year-old Kipland Kinkel, is a senior majoring in speech pathology at Hawai`i Pacific University.
