How to get the most out of the LeahiNet News gateway:
- A frames-capable browser is required. I recommend the non-monopolistic Netscape Navigator. If you absolutely hate frames, you can try and use the left-side menu as a stand-alone links page.
- Widen your browser window. Most of the material is dropped in from remote sites, and was likely designed to take up most of your screen (instead of my frames). Give it as much space as possible or it could look positively awful.
- Reconsider Java. Some of the linked pages use Java tricks, which often take ages to load and may even crash older computers. They rarely add anything useful to the browsing experience, anyway. To turn Java off, poke around the "Preferences" menu in your browser application.
- Watch the status bar. As you move your mouse over the links in the left-side menu, you will see notes on each respective news source in the status line that appears the bottom of most browser windows. (JavaScript isn't so bad).
- Be patient. Again, since you're reading material sent by another server, it may take a while to appear (or may be unavailable altogether).
- Don't panic. If you click around a lot in the loaded pages, you might end up in a nightmare of cascading frames. You can click "reset" in the left-side menu to start over, or "break out" of frames entirely.
